This section of the website contains the inventories of the archives of the State Archive of Milan. In general, they are listed alphabetically by archive name and in PDF format. The list is periodically updated.
For some specific archives there are dedicated pages (Government Acts, Land surveys and land registries, Notarial Acts Archive, Prefecture of Milan, Visconti Sforza).
Databases are available for some archives. Visit Online digital reproductions and Databases.
ACCESSIBILITY RESTRICTIONS
The archives or series or individual items that come under the following category are subject to restrictions or specific forms of advanced reservation:
Accessibility note: “not accessible”
Documentation not accessible due to a lack of research tools, poor preservation conditions or where the original record is not accessible.
Accessibility note: “presence of sensitive data”
In accordance with current legislation, judgments and documentation from the last 70 years are subject to preventive checks for the presence of sensitive data; such documentation must therefore be reserved with appropriate notice via the https://salastudio-archivi.cultura.gov.it system. Requests must indicate the name of the archive, the folder number and the file number or name of the person after which the file is named. Once the request has been received and the possibility of accessing the documentation evaluated by an archivist, within 5 days the user will be informed of the results of the evaluation via a notification within the reservation system and, if the request is successful, the date from which they can consult the records. It isn’t possible to submit requests via email.
The archives and units subject to checks for the presence of sensitive data are listed in the following document (PDF, 640 KB). This documentation must be requested via the new portal https://salastudio-archivi.cultura.gov.it.
In the presence of sensitive data, consultation requests are subject to the prior authorisation of the Ministry of the Interior; these requests must be forwarded to the Prefecture of Milan by filling out the specific form on the dedicated page of the website (forms).
Accessibility note: “presence of heavy items”
Heavy items to reserve at least 1 week in advance. Users will be informed of the day on which they can consult the records of interest.
Accessibility note: “land surveys”
Land registry archives (Land survey and Land registries) must be requested via the online platform Sala Studio, either remotely or from the workstations made available to the public, by 10.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays; the units are made available from 12.00 also on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Very heavy or particularly large registers and other volumes can be consulted in agreement with study room staff and in any case by making a reservation with appropriate advanced notice.
