NEW “Sala Studio” REQUEST SYSTEM
We hereby inform all academics that the new Sala studiosoftware for submitting archive material consultation requests, accessed using digital ID, was launched on Monday 8 July 2024.

NEW RULES
The NEW RULES OF THE STUDY ROOM come into force on Monday 8 July. Users are invited to ready them carefully.

The Study Room (up to 3 August and recommencing 2 September) observes the following opening hours:
Monday to Thursday: 8.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.
Friday: 8.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.
Saturday: 8.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. by reservation only using the link https://salastudio-archivi.cultura.gov.it.
This public service is provided in accordance with the Rules of the Study room.
Material retrieval times:
Monday to Thursday: 8.45 a.m., 9.45 a.m., 10.45 a.m., 12.00 p.m., 2.00 p.m., 3.00 p.m.
Friday: 8.45 a.m., 9.45 a.m., 10.45 a.m., 12.00 p.m., 2.00 p.m.
Saturday: by reservation only https://salastudio-archivi.cultura.gov.it: reservations must be made by 10 a.m. on the preceding Friday.
Please note that the following archives must in any be reserved in advance: salastudio-archivi.cultura.gov.it.
- Land surveys and judicial records Requests must be submitted in any case by 10.00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Materials are distributed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12.00 p.m.
- Material containing sensitive data To consult materials containing sensitive data from the last 70 years (list PDF, 640 KB), requests must be made within 72 hours of the date you wish to visit the Institution.
From Monday 5/8 to Friday 30/8 the Study room will be open from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
The Archive will be closed on the following days:
- Saturday 10/8,
- Friday 16/8 (for mosquito and rat control operations),
- Saturday 17/8,
- Saturday 24/8,
- Saturday 31/8.
Reproductions of documentary material
Users can make reproductions of archival material with their own devices and for non-profit reasons, but must declare all reproductions they have made.

Microfilm
Update on 9 April 2024: the microfilm service is currently suspended for technical reasons.
(Microfilms can be viewed at the multimedia library, by appointment only, from Monday to Saturday, 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations must be made by writing to as-mi.riproduzioni@cultura.gov.it, indicating the reels requested.)
Archive consultancy
The study room and inventories room are managed by qualified reception and supervisory staff who are on hand to help users with their material requests and provide general information. It is possible to request the scientific consultancy of archivists, guaranteed from Monday to Friday, 8.45 a.m. to 3.45 p.m., subject to the approval of onsite staff.
Databases and digitalised documents
The digital reproductions published online are listed on the page online digital reproductions. The content present on the Arianna portal up to November 2022 is currently being migrated; databases and reproductions will be made available on the new portal.

The Reading Room of the State Archives in Milan is open:
Monday to Thursday: 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.;
Friday: 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.;
Saturday: 8.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
All visitors to the reading room are asked to respect the Reding Room Regulations Regolamento (ITA only).

Please note: some fonds require special ordering procedures; these include Catasto (Land Registries), Tribunale (Law Courts), records with sensitive data and recent documents in general (listed here).
Land Registries and Law Courts records requests are accepted by 10 am and distributed from 12 am on Tuesday and Thursday only. In case you wish to access recent records with sensitive data, please insert your request at least 72 hours prior to the day of your visit to the Archives.
Photographs
Users are allowed to take pictures of documents for non-profit purposes with their own camera or tablet: they must sign a detailed declaration of the photographed documents.
The Archives also offer a professional digitalisation service: both for publishing and commercial purposes please refer to the specific page (link).
Microfilm
Update, April 9th 2024: the service is actually suspended due to technical reasons.
Archivist advice and research enquiries
The presence of an Archivist is guaranteed Monday to Friday, 08:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The user can ask the reading room staff for assistance and consultation.
